Ercolano, or how it used to be called Herculaneum, is a city with a big historical value. It can be found in the region Campania. When Mount Vesuvius erupted the inhabitants of Herculaneum were all suffocated to death by poisonous fumes. So it was not buried under heavy ash, like Pompeii. But the town was partially buried in mud! The new city Ercolano has about 55000 inhabitants now.
